Jerry Dean Klindt was born on April 28, 1946, in Harlan to Myrtle and Glenn Klindt. He graduated from Harlan Community High School in 1964 and went to Wayne State College where he was a member of the wrestling team and met the love of his life Eileen Method. They were married on August 27, 1967, at Riverside Baptist Church outside Decatur, NE, and were blessed with two children, Lisa and Jason.
Jerry graduated with a degree in education in December 1968 and began his teaching career the following month at Anthon-Oto Community Schools. He continued to teach many different subjects and coached numerous sports and earned his master's degree from Drake University during his 33 ½ years before retiring in 2002. He thrived on the energy of the kids and continued to substitute teach and drive school bus for more than a decade in retirement.
Jerry was proud of his community and volunteered for various events including Kids Day, RAGBRAI, the 1988 centennial, and was an Anthon ambulance driver for many years. He and Eileen were honored to be the 2023 Kids Day Parade Grand Marshals. He was a member of Anthon Community Methodist Church where he served in numerous capacities.
Jerry loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening and camping with family and friends as often as he could. He also enjoyed woodworking and made many beautiful keepsakes for his family, friends and organizations he loved. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, MVAO and any team his grandkids played on. In the summers, he worked as a handyman around Anthon. There is hardly a part of town that doesn't have a roof, front porch, paint, stain or concrete that bears his handiwork. He also detasseled corn in Whiting with his kids and their friends.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 58 years, Eileen Klindt of Anthon; children Lisa (Scott) Dulitz of Shawnee, KS, and Jason (Nichole) Klindt of Kearney, MO; grandchildren Carson Dulitz, Danika Dulitz, Jacoby Klindt and Josie Klindt; sister Linda (Klindt) Christensen and brother Robert Klindt both of Harlan; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barbara (David) Anderson of Watsonville, CA, Linda (Rich) Curtis of Chittenango, NY, Marilee (Rusty) Jenson of Omaha, NE, and Bill (Laurel) Method of Decatur, NE; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews along with many good friends.
