The students at MVAO Elementary School in Mapleton came together to celebrate their second quarter reading accomplishments on Tuesday, January 6th.
    The first grade students from Mrs. Hanson's class and Mrs. Vermeys's class shared two readings with the audience. They began with "There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow" by Lucille Colandro and then read "Ten Baby Snowmen." Mrs. O'Neal's fifth grade class then shared a reading of "Five Little Penguins Slipping on the Ice" by Steve Metzger. Mrs. Dougherty's fifth grade class finished the student segment by sharing two poems, "A Fresh New Start" and "Welcome, January." The students all did a marvelous job presenting to the student body, a skill that isn't easy, requires practice, and will serve them well as they need to speak to, or in front of, others some day.
    Following the students, Mrs. Oberreuter announced reading awards that were earned during the second quarter of the year.

    The MVAO Elementary students in Anthon celebrated their second quarter reading accomplishments on Thursday, January 8th.
    Mrs. Oberreuter shared a new book from the recent book fair titled "Grumpy Monkey: Play All Day" by Suzanne Lang. After listening to the book, a small group of students got to put together a digital puzzle of the book cover using a resource called TeachingBooks.
    After the puzzle activity, numerous reading awards were handed out.
